The Meals4Missions Local Grant Program is administered by the mission council at Hendersonville NC First United Methodist Church. We fund social services projects submitted by local agencies, including 501 (c) (3), FUMC-sponsored and local schools for up to $2,500.
Matching funds may be required, and clients must reside in Henderson County. Priority is given to projects that engage FUMC members and require client participation. The funds cannot be used for recurring administrative expenses.

Thrivent Builds $2500 April 2018
The grant will be applied to a Thrivent Financial matching grant to build a home in The Dodd Meadows subdivision in East Flat Rock. FUMC volunteers will work with volunteers from area churches and the prospective homeowner who will contribute 400 sweat equity hours to help build their home.
The homeowner will repay an affordable no-interest mortgage over 30 years with a monthly payment that is less than 30% of their gross income.
5th Avenue Apartments Outdoor Renovations $2,250 April 2018
The project will enable the renovation and construction of an outdoor recreational area for the residents of the apartments. The renovated area will allow the residents to enjoy a private space where they can share with their children, friends and loved ones with privacy that is lacking in the area’s current condition.
Scout Cabin Renovation $2,500 February 2018
Boy Scout Troup 603 is sponsored by FUMC with most of the members from Bruce Drysdale School. The grant will be used to make several repairs to the inside and outside of the Scout Cabin located in Edwards Park near Bruce Drysdale School. Repairs are needed for the outside walls and inside including ceiling, walls and the floor.
Foster Parent Training $1,600 January 2018
This grant supported foster parent training as a “clear way to express our community appreciation for the sacrifices made by foster families for our children and encourage more families to become foster families”. The training will be sponsored by Homes for Youth, Hendersonville County Department of Social Services (DSS) and First United Methodist Church (FUMC).
The training will be held at FUMC in September and October, 2018. Participants will receive a complementary meal to our regular Wednesday night meal, “The Gathering”.

Disaster Relief Supply Kits $1,000 September 2017
The news about Hurricanes Harvey and Irma was heartbreaking. These massive storms created havoc and devastation on the Gulf and Florida Coasts which will linger for years. The United Methodist Church is there, working with local and state emergency management, FEMA and other volunteers active in disaster. UMCOR collects hygiene, school, and cleaning kits for distribution within the United States. Kits help sustain everyday life for people who lack ready access to essential supplies when a disaster strikes.

This faith-based community garden focuses on providing fresh, organic produce for local agencies serving neighbors in need, operating in partnership between FUMC, Safelight and Bruce Drysdale School. It is located at Fifth Avenue West and Buncombe Street near the church. Nearly $4,200 was matched through this grant to assist with start-up and maintenance costs.
