First United Methodist Church supports 19 local and international missions through the FUMC mission budget.
Bruce Drysdale School neighbors our church in downtown Hendersonville, NC. With an enrollment of 469 students in grades K thru 5, the school offers both Traditional and Spanish Immersion classrooms.
Members of our church provide food to 180 students each weekend through our Back Pack Program and sponsor Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. Our members serve as leaders of the PTO, classroom and substitute teachers and volunteers. Our community garden, Rooted in Faith, also partners with third grade teachers and classes to provide hands-on gardening experiences.
BDS was the recipient of a FUMC 2017-18 matching grant of $8,500 to provide Chromebook computers for 30 third graders. The school has raised $2,000 of the match so far and still needs individuals, local businesses and organizations to contribute the remaining matching funds for another 30 Chromebooks.
Please contact BDS principal BJ Laughter at 828-697-5568 or firstname.lastname@example.org if you would like to help.
ZOE’s mission is to equip orphans and vulnerable children across the world to move beyond poverty and never need charity again.
ZOE invites children who are living in extreme poverty, often raising younger brothers and sisters, to join a supportive group meeting in their own communities. These children are given skills and resources to lift themselves out of poverty and into productive lives in just three years.
Since 2013 First UMC has partnered with seven groups of children in four countries: Rwanda, Kenya, India and Guatemala. With our support, over 600 orphans have started businesses, returned to school, even higher education, live in safe houses, practice good hygiene and are free from abuse and exploitation.
